Saturday's Poem: Footprints
I was touched by this lovely poem written by my friend and neighbor Andy Neumann, an esteemed architect and champion surfer, and honored that he shared it with me and agreed to let me post it here. The above photo, happy evidence of a kid (and dog) enjoying summer, was taken at Drakes, where Andy saw the footprints he refers to in the poem.
FOOTPRINTS by Andy Neumann
A child’s footprintsLightly imprinted in the windblown sand
I follow them up and around the point
I wonder
What lies ahead for this beautiful child
So much promise in a mere footprint
A promise of growing up
Of unfolding
Of questions and wonderment
Of joy and enthusiasm
The footprint small
The step short
But the promise huge
