Saturday's Poem: Bad Day

elfin tailor

         BAD DAY by Kay Ryan

Not every day
is a good day
for the elfin tailor.
Some days
the stolen cloth
reveals what it
was made for:
a handsome weskit
or the jerkin
of an elfin sailor.

* * *

But some days
neither the idea
nor the material
presents itself;
and these are
the hard days
for the tailor elf.

And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don't stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven't hoed,
And shout from where I am, What is it?
No, not as there is a time to talk.
