I thought I was done with the subject of trains for awhile, but my old friend Kit Cossart just sent me some wonderful railroad pictures that he took here at the Ranch, and they got me right back on track.  Kit is an artist; he notices things: the angles and arched darkness of a tunnel in amber light, the rusting steel of bridge against blue sky, the solidity and texture of the trestle's concrete footing, the stunning glint at dusk of tracks that seem to rise and vanish at the sea.For many of us, all this railroad infrastructure is just mundane visual background noise, but Kit sees (and captures) the poetry in it.  Here are a few other glimpses.

See what I mean? It's all in the eye of the beholder.

It makes me want to step outside tomorrow and pay closer attention to everything.

Here's the link once more to Kit Cossart's website in case you are interested in seeing some of his art––it's definitely worth a visit. While I'm on this train of thought, I'd like to also to link you back to a story on the Zacate Canyon section of this website about trains and hoboes, in case you haven't read it.

And remember that red caboose we talked about a post or two back? Kit managed to get a photo of it––or one just like it––with two men on board, looking like they wouldn't want to be anyplace else.
