Time Out From The Apocalypse
That’s my little buddy, Gigi. One of my best recent epiphanies was realizing that not all of my friends have to be grown-ups, and I thoroughly enjoy Gigi’s occasional after-school visits. On this particular day, it was raining, but she had lots of excellent ideas. Maybe we could make a book, or a fancy walking stick decorated with seashells, or perhaps we could create a painting using all that handy rainwater blended with colors we find in nature, squishing berries and grass and bright flowers, for example. I wasn’t sure I wanted to do anything so wet and messy and active, and we spent a few minutes sitting in front of the heater eating ice cream, but eventually I yielded to her coaxing and we put on our rubber boots and ventured out. The light was beautiful, and the canyon seemed enchanted. It was a good reminder not to be lazy. (I learn so much from my little friend.)
